10:30 am - What to do with Quality stuff...

For an assortment of reasons, my office only just got around to our holiday gift exchange grab bag thingy. I ended up with a bottle of Grey Goose Vodka! being generally pretty broke, I'd never be able to buy this for myself, so I am really excited.

So folks, what is your favorite thing to do with vodka? I need some ideas!

Had one of these the other night and wanted to pass on the recipe. A very unusal taste!

2 parts Vodka
1/2 part Lemon Juice
1/4 part Pomegranate Juice

I checked to see if there were any other recipes available for this. What I have found is in place of the Vodka, use a Citrus Vodka. Also some recipes call for Simple Syrup to be added to this.

4:25 pm - Colorado's newest and only tiki bar!

Denver's newest and only tiki bar, Tiki Boyd's (at E.C.B.), features Polynesian décor, hanging lanterns, colored lights, an assortment of traditional and unique tiki drinks and of course, tiki music from exotica greats such as Martin Denny, Les Baxter and Arthur Lyman.

Great attention to detail has been put into every inch of Tiki Boyd's. When stepping through the hanging bamboo curtains at the bar's entrance, one is met with the perfect Tiki ambiance; a melding of soft colored lights, bamboo covered walls (adorned with Tikis and black velvet paintings), the soothing sounds of exotica music, and of course, a freshly prepared fluorescent Tiki drink made to order. It's a glimpse of tropical utopia, right here in Denver, Colorado.

7:34 pm - New Birthday Cocktail

When it's a week past Bastille Day, if you've kept the champagne cold, you're just in time for lexica510's birthday.

No bubbly? Us neither. So this past week we made up a new cocktail. It's called the Birthday Suit.

-1 oz Charbay Key Lime Vodka
-1/2 oz Triple Sec
-1/2 oz Peach Schnapps
-1/2 oz Pom Wonderful cherry-pomegranate juice
-Juice of 1/2 a lime

Shake with crushed ice, pour into chilled cocktail glasses.

Birthday Suit. Ohhhhh...I like that. Very tasty. Succulently fruity. Lovely dark pink color. Very sensuous. Glides easily over the tongue.

And the drink isn't half bad either...

12:30 am - Boozin in Oz

Hey everyone,

I just joined this community after leaving Brisbane, Australia. If you ever find yourself in Brisbane you must stop by The Bowery in Fortitude Valley. It's not hard to get to and well worth your time. It's a little jazz bar with outstanding bartenders and good prices. You walk in and there is a band playing to the right by the front window. On your left is a series of booths with tables, but the booths only go up 3 feet so everything still feels open. On the right is the bar, dark wood, surounded by brick, and immaculately well kept. They stock all the best liquor and many fine wines. A menu is provided if you don't know what you want with chapters for every liquor plus a "classics" chapter and a "Bowery Originals" chapter. They also have every accoutrement and garnish you could want. The staff is courteous and fast. You can open a tab just by leaving your credit card with the bartender. You don't have to tip in Australia, but I find it's best to leave something extra when you cash out.

My favorite drinks are martinis, gibsons, and manhattans, but after a night of drinking at The Bowery I'm going to have to start making myself Japanese Cocktails. They are superb!

9:43 am - Wendover Trip

Has anyone ever noticed that Wendover sounds a lot like Bendover? As in Bendover and kiss your money goodbye? I can understand why they sound so alike now. After spending the weekend at the Montego Bay, I observed how desperate people become after losing all of their life's earnings on the poker tables. Of course, Vegas is exactly the same but there's more to do down there besides gambling. I was rather disappointed with Wendover in comparison. I learned my lesson long ago about gambling after watching all those poor suckers in Vegas try to off themselves once they realized how royally fucked they really are!

All losers aside, I had fun playing nickels and getting free cocktails all night while listening to a live Jazz band. It's not Vegas though, it's definitely not Vegas. If you don't plan on gambling, don't go to Wendover as there is nothing else to do whatsoever. I spent a good portion of my trip in the Jacuzzi, watching the Oscars (which by the way I'm pissed about since no one I wanted to win got shit!) One of my companions struck lucky playing 21 and walked away with $1,100 dollars. I've got some pictures of me rolling around on the bed in all that money, true Indecent Proposal style :0)

Once I get them developed, I'll have to post a few on here. I think I'll save up my pennies for the big V next time though. Wendover is just not Vegas, I can't say it enough. I did meet some rather interesting people though. It was an eventful past couple of days :0)

3:25 pm - Are you Hip?

11 Clues You Are a Hipster

1. You graduated from a liberal arts school whose football team hasn't won a game since the Reagan administration.

2. You frequently use the term "post-modern" (or its commonly used variation "PoMo") as an adjective, noun, and verb.

3. You carry a shoulder-strap messenger bag and have at one time or another worn a pair of horn-rimmed or Elvis Costello-style glasses.

4. You have one Republican friend who you always describe as being your "one Republican friend."

5. Your hair looks best unwashed and you position your head on your pillow at night in a way that will really maximize your cowlicks.

6. You own records put out by Matador, DFA, Definitive Jux, Dischord, Warp, Thrill Jockey, Smells Like Records, and Drag City.

7. You bought your dishes and a checkered tablecloth at a thrift shop to be kitschy and often throw vegetarian dinner parties.

8. You frequently complain about gentrification even though you are responsible for it yourself.

9. You have refined tastes and consider yourself exceptionally cultured, but have one pop vice (ElimiDATE, American Idol and Entertainment Weekly are popular ones) that helps to define you as well-rounded.

10. You spend much of your leisure time in bars and/or resteraunts with monosyllabic names like Plant, Bound or Shine.

11. You have kissed someone of the same gender and often bring this up in casual conversation.

3:03 am - Found a great drink idea.

Thought that I would share it with you all.

Pearl Diver Cocktail

(The amounts are subjective since people differ on how much pineapple juice they want)
1oz Malibu Rum
1oz Midori
1/2oz Blue Curacao
2-4oz Pineapple Juice
1/2oz Genadine
Mix the first 4 ingredients together with ice.
Put the genadine in in the empty glass so it's on the bottom
Slowly strain into an old fashion glass trying not to disturb the genadine too much
Drop the cherry in so it sinks to the bottom
Now dive for that pearl, baby.

If you try this, let us know how it is. This is a recipe that I need to try.
